2021 Claymores R.F.C. Awards

What a year, what a night!

Congratulations to all the award winners last night:

Rookie of the Year Javon Wright: Javon came into the season as a raw athlete. The former football player was a huge impact from the first day he stepped on the field. To no surprise, the first time Javon touched the ball was a try. Over the course of the season Javon sharpened his passing, decision making, and defensive positioning to earn himself the rookie of the year award.

Most Improved Player James Peterson: Similar to Javon, James had a huge impact for the Claymores from his first day at practice. JP came from a basketball background, but adapted to the physical play style on the fly. The progress he has made will certainly carry into next season where he looks to become a veteran leader for the Claymores.

Forward of the Year Charlie Wilson: Charles was one of the few veteran players to take the field for the Claymores this year. Demanding the attention of the opposing defense, maintaining offense possession, and making frequent line breaks made Charles the favorite for forward of the year. Next year Charles will surely be a leader for the younger Claymores both on and off the field.

Co Back of the Year Javon Wright & Alexander Cavanaugh: It was no surprise this award came to a tie. Javon and Alex have pushed each other all year. The two demand the most out of the other and come ready to play every Saturday. The two roommates developed a lethal offensive attack between the 15 & 13 positions. Be ready when these two have the ball in space.

Indian River Iron Man Awards to both Jacques De Bruyn and Richie Hoch: Indian River played a huge part in the Claymores 2021 season. The Iron Man award is a continued tradition that honors the players who did not miss a single game. Congrats to both Richie and Jacques on their dedication to the great game of rugby. We look forward to playing with them in the upcoming season.

Coach’s Choice Award to both Carlos Lavayen and Jaques De Bruyn: Jacques is honored with another award with the Coach’s choice award. Without Jacques commitment to both clubs, this season would not have been near as successful and likewise to Carlos. Carlos was a huge factor in recruiting tremendous athletes for the Claymores this season. He also developed tremendously over his rookie season. Look for Carlos to have a deeper understanding of the game in the upcoming season.

And finally the Claymore of the Year Alexander Cavanaugh: Like Charles, Alex was also one of the few veteran players for the Claymores this season. The former Mizzou Tiger was a dangerous weapon in the back line, starting at 5 different positions of the course of the season. Using his passing and kicking, Alex often opened the field for fellow Claymore Javon. Alex ended the season with 3 tries of his own as well.
